MOOD SWINGS?!?
Isn’t this a very common situation to all of us? Crying in the corner for five minutes and then suddenly bursting out in laughter for no valid reasons? Do you know what they call me when this condition occurs? Well…it’s “Overdramatic!” don’t we all use that too?

Frequent mood swings are often ignored as if it’s just a joke. Being unpredictable way too much gets equivalent to a compliment. But do we all even know what mood swings actually are or how serious of an issue it can become? The average answer would be NO.
Mood swings can be referred to as extreme mood changes. These mood changes can occur within split seconds and can be way more extra then normal mood changes. It can lead to buying lots of expensive items due to excitement or breaking things suddenly out of extreme anger or discomfort. Mood swings can also be considered to mood disorders in a psychological manner.
HEALTH CONDITIONS RELATED TO MOOD SWINGS:
Several mood changes could be due to mental health conditions such as:
- BIPOLAR DISORDER
- MAJOR DEPRESSIVE DISORDER (MDD)
- DYSTHYMIA
- DISRUPTIVE MOOD DYSREGULATION DISORDER (DMDD)
- CYCLOTHYMIC DISORDER
And there can be many more disorders which can lead to extreme mood changes. Therefore people suffering from these disorders can have frequent mood changes.
DUE TO HORMONAL CHANGES:
Several hormonal changes in the body can also lead to mood swings. The hormonal changes can lead to changes in brain signals. This is also the reason behind why females go through mood shifts during pregnancy or menstrual period. However, mood shifts due to hormonal changes are not considered very serious as they occur for a very small period of time.
TRIGGERS:
Every condition has its own several triggers. These triggers can make the conditions worse anytime. The triggers of mood swings are very common ones. They include:
- Stress
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Lifestyle change
- Changes in diet
- Sleeping habits
- Certain medications
- Use of drugs, alcohol, etc.
HOW TO CONTROL YOUR MOOD SWINGS?
There are many ways to control mood swings. Some are:
- Try to identify the cause behind your mood changes so that you know how to treat it.
- Staying calm with the method of meditation and yoga can be useful.
- Make good changes in lifestyle.
However, it is never too late to seek help from a therapist if you feel that your mood swings are way too frequent.
