OPTIMISM AND HEALTH BEHAVIOR
So, when life gives you a glass of water, how do you perceive it? Do you see that the glass is half empty; a pessimist or do you see that the glass is half-filled; an optimist?
If you see the glass as half-filled then this article is about you, my friend! And if you perceive the glass as half empty, well, this article is to change your perception.
An optimist is a person who has a mental attitude that everything that is happening or will happen will be positive, favourable, and desirable.
An optimist is like a rainbow, a ray of light on a dark night, the last leaf on a tree, or a hot cup of coffee on a cold winter night.
Optimism is simply a mental attitude that shapes a person’s way of living. An optimist would find peace even in chaos. Maintaining a positive attitude towards life and everything that happens everyday keeps a person happy, healthy, and grateful.
Our thoughts have a great deal of impact on your psychological well being and also the physical well being. The way a person attributes his thoughts is reflected in his mental and physical health too.
HAPPY THOUGHTS, HEALTHY YOU
Researches have been able to establish a healthy relationship between optimism and mental health. A person with an optimistic perception is less likely to suffer from mental illnesses and would have healthy mental health.
Optimism lets you deal with stress and anxiety effectively and there are very high chances that people with an optimistic mindset are very less likely to suffer from depression, anxiety, or stress.
Having a positive outlook also helps a person to deal with inconvenient situations or a traumatic experience. Optimists leave a sparkle wherever they go so they are very considerate of others and will help them deal with stress too.
It is often seen that people with an optimistic personality have a specific routine set for them. They involve physical activities and mental activities to sharpen their mind and body. Staying positive also reflects on healthy physical health and thus, such kinds of people tend to live a healthy life.
HOW TO BECOME AN OPTIMIST
As said above, optimism is nothing but a mental attitude so, in order to become an optimist, you need to alter your thoughts.
- For this, try involving in calming mindful activities such as yoga and meditation. They give peace of mind and relax the mind from mental strain hence letting a person see the world in a brighter way.
- Do not intake depressants or other drugs because that may stimulate anger, depressing thoughts, and impulsion.
- Intake good food, that is a food rich in nutrients because a healthy mind is a happy mind.
- Restrain from negative content online.
- Read good books.
- Involve in physical activities that stimulate serotonin rush in your blood.
- Avoid situations that may have a negative impact on your mind.
- Try dealing with problems in a calm, relaxed, and positive manner.
CONCLUSION
Optimists are what our world needs now. They are healers. They are caretakers. They are the torchbearers for a better tomorrow and the world needs more of them.
