The Power of Forgiveness
If you were asked to forgive someone who hurt you, would you forgive that person?
Most of the times, people say it’s easier to forget than forgive. And it might be true because forgiveness takes a lot of strength and investment of energy. It takes practice. Forgiveness doesn’t just mean letting go or moving on, it goes a little deeper than that. Forgiveness means showing empathy, compassion and understanding -towards the person who hurt you. It frees you from the web of hatred, anger, resentment towards someone who you feel has wronged you, including yourself. Letting go and moving on opens up space in our hearts for new people, experiences and relationships. Wanting to hurt someone who hurt you is understandable. Offering compassion to that same person is hard but right because, why hurt people when you can heal them?
Research shows that forgiveness has a lot of mental health benefits such as reduced anxiety, depression and fewer physical health issues such as improved heart health, a strong immune system and increased self-esteem. Not being able to forgive stunts your growth, stops you from experiencing emotions like love, compassion and happiness. As Martin Luther King, Jr. once said ‘Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that’. You cannot truly be happy if you keep holding in all the bitterness, darkness and hatred against someone who hurt you. Forgiveness opens up a whole new, better world for you.

An insightful article. Forgiveness is a life skill which lead us to strive better.
This article is quite meaningful. Forgiving someone who has hurt you takes a lot of strength. Forgiveness helps us live in present without holding onto any grudges making our lives one filled with contentment.
Hey, thank you so much for writing this. Forgiveness is something I really care about and am very glad that you brought it up in this way. To be honest, kindness, forgiveness, being non-judgmental etc. are not our innate traits. It is something that we need to take time to understand. I myself have been practicing forgiveness for a few years now. I will now share what helps me practice it in real life.
1. I take my time to respond and I do not react spontaneously.
2. I realized that because someone has said/done something, at this particular point of time, which is hurtful to me does not mean that the person is of an innately hurting nature at all points of time. I realized that ‘n’ number of things affect us all, and so must be for the person whom I find hurtful.
3. I try putting myself in their shoes and try to understand why they did what they did (not what I would do in their situation). This is empathy.
4. All feelings are valid. Let us all try to be non-judgmental.
I hope all of you consciously practice forgiveness from this day on. All the best 🙂
Absolutely! Practising forgiveness takes alot of patience and self-control. You need to start forgiving yourself first! Then you will realise how important it is to let go the grudges and it will then make you feel free and joyful. Thank you @Vinaya Dalvi for sharing this.
A very insightful article and we’ll written. The fact that forgiveness is important is so true , it frees you and makes you a much happier and healthier person.
Well executed article fantastic work and the way of explanation.
A very important topic especially in today’s day and age. It was nice to see someone who shares the same view point as me. You touched upon the important aspects well, although I was looking forward to a more in-depth research and writing on the wonderful topic you’ve chosen. I felt that it was incredibly short and crisp. Despite that I believe that you very well possess the skills of a good writer and often fewer words have the capacity to deliver a deeper message. I still hope you can give all of us an in-depth view of this relevant topic.
Have a nice day
Forgiveness is so powerful, yet it is so hard sometimes!
It is such a positive article, loved it!
Peace comes in letting go. Beautifully jotted down! ❤️
Really liked the fact that this was a simple yet enlightening article. Especially the part where you’ve written about why hurt people when you can heal them. I’m a believer of that and I hope I abide by it and continue with it in the future. And what can be more great than concluding by a quote none other than Martin Luther King, Jr. Forgiveness instead is a virtue

This is really a short, crisp and sweet article that sheds light on forgiveness, something that we all often overlook. A sense of realization is created within the readers that one can be free from all disturbances only if we learn to not only forget, but also forgive people or circumstances that hurt us. Looking forward to reading more of your works!
Wonderful and well written article. Thank you for spreading this kind of positivity!!
I have seen people promoting betrayal, so this article was very different compared to what our society preaches these days. However, it was very short…
