LIVE AN EASY, YET FULFILLING LIFE.
“It’s easy to make life hard. Fill it with experiences, not things. Have stories to tell, not stuff to show.” – Anonymous.
Have you ever wondered why waking up in the morning is such a chore? Have you ever found yourself awake, lying in bed in the morning, unable to move? Unable to find the strength to get out of bed and go about your day. I know I have, and I know most of you guys have too.
WHY?
This is because we often hate having to face the day ahead of us. We find it incredibly tough to find the motivation and the spirit to even leave the comfort of our beds. “Just 5 more minutes”, we tell ourselves. But we know how much we dread the hours ahead of us.
But isn’t life supposed to be easy? To be fun, to be LIVED to its fullest?
Then why do we put ourselves through this labyrinth of suffering only to find ourselves stuck in it? Why is it like a marsh that we cannot escape? This is because life indeed is easy. It’s us, humans who complicate it and in turn, make it hard.
WE CHASE AND CRAVE MATERIALISM.
“Gucci, Prada, Fendi, Louis Vuitton”, we want it all. But do we really need it? Why must we follow fashion? We can never catch up with it. Even if you buy the most expensive pair of shoes or the costliest pants, every time you wear them and look in the mirror, YOU ARE THE SAME PERSON. It does not change you. You are still who you were before wearing these things, just that you have now wasted money on stuff that you did not need.
More often than not, we chase these materialistic pleasures to please others in our lives. To prove to the world that we live a life worth thousands of rupees. That we are wealthy. We let our bank accounts speak for us. We let those numbers define us without realising the fact that they mean nothing. They do not speak for the person that you are. They do not represent anything that you stand for, those numbers do not represent your individuality. They are merely numbers.
Just numbers. Meaningless digits created to please society.
Now, I do not mean that money is irrelevant or that money is unimportant. It is an essential tool for survival. What I mean is that money is not EVERYTHING. Do not let it rule you. Do not let it snatch your livelihood, your uniqueness and your sense of individuality. You are a person even if your hustle is taken away from you. You are a person even without your branded clothes and your mansion. Preserve that person. Value that person, but that is who you truly are. And that is who the world really needs to like and be found of.
HOW WE MAKE LIFE TOUGHER.
We often see young people leaving their countries and going abroad to pursue their education. To live a better life and to earn better. We see students migrating to foreign lands in order to receive a better education and to earn and fend for themselves. Independence is taught to us at a young age, but what does it really cost?
Let me tell you something.
Leaving your country to go to a different place may sound like a rosy picture, but nobody talks about the struggle. Nobody mentions the nights where they have had to fall asleep hungry, without their families to tuck them in. And for what? For more years of struggle, an endless sea of hardships until you are halfway through your life, swimming in a sea of debts only to miss the life you had back home?
Again, if you wish to pursue a life outside your land, go ahead. Do it. Make the most of it. But make sure you LOVE what you do. Immerse yourself in something that you are passionate about. CREATE, AND GROW.
HUMANS ARE DESTRUCTIVE
We create highways and bridges, buildings and monuments- but have we ever thought about how we are destroying our natural surroundings in order to receive our own personal artificially built comfort? We cut down forests, we destroy mountains, we render so many animals and birds homeless. Why are we never happy with what we already have?
Because we make everything hard to get. We complicate things.
Simple things like food, shelter, clothing and medicine – the essentials to survive are almost unattainable in today’s day and age. We have wired ourselves in a way that we are constantly on the run. We never step back to breathe.
In a place like Thailand, people have enough time to themselves that they are able to nap in the afternoons, they build their own houses instead of paying off debts until they are 30 years old.
They build their homes in a span of 2 months and save 29 years and 10 years of their lives. If they can be self-sufficient and have multiple houses, why must we make it so very difficult for ourselves to be able to do the same? Why don’t we learn from them and try to SIMPLIFY our lives and be self-sufficient?
We can easily do this.
A man by the name of Jon Jandai worked for 8 hours a day when he moved to Bangkok every day and still wasn’t happy. He slept hungrily and hated his overcomplicated life. So he decided to move back to his home in Thailand. There, he grows his own food by working 2 months a year and spending 15 minutes every day working on his garden. This way, he saves 10 months of his life every year and still manages to bring sufficient income and feeds his family of 6 members.
He has built multiple homes for himself in a span of merely 2 months, this way he has saved 29 years and 10 months of his life! And, he has multiple houses to live in. He is free from 30 years of debt and has time for himself and leads a happy life.
He does not prioritise other people’s opinions. It does not upset him when people decide to label him as “crazy”. He feels it’s their fault and pities them for thinking this way.
We make our lives harder and harder.
Humans are the smartest species on the planet and yet, animals build their homes faster than us.
The only person we need to please is ourselves.
Our 4 basic needs- food, clothing, shelter and medicine are supposed to be something that every single person has. That is how we know that we live in a civilised world. But we have turned it into a rat race, so much so that we forget ourselves and our individual uniqueness.
We have made the world uncivilised by complicating it to this extent. We have complicated everything and make our 4 necessities extremely difficult for some people to attain and thus, we are uncivilised.
CHOICES, TO MAKE OR BREAK US.
Everyone has a choice. We can decide what we want for ourselves and what we want to make of our lives. Just like Cooper made a choice in Interstellar to sacrifice himself for a better world, we have the choice to make our lives easier or hard.
Choose wisely. Don’t lose yourself in the rat race we now call “Life”.

Nice topic. Well conceptualized. Wonderful examples. I liked the way you have discussed brain drain as a way in which we complicate our lives ourselves. I also liked the interstellar example. Well done
