“Depression is a swamp from which we can’t get out of ourselves“
Says Banty Barman, a depressed author of a romantic novel . It’s a state of mind where we find tremendous peace even in drowning in the ocean coz we know sooner we will be free from the anxiety we are going through.
Sit with your coffee mug coz I am sharing personal experience which will show you a clear picture of the struggles of a depressed person. It is also a part of my upcoming book.
I am glad to depict about this topic because last year I was in depression for seven months and those seven months was the turning point. It divided my life into two parts to which I address as Before || After ( reason mentioned in my bio ). I was never the same me and I will never be the same again.
Depression has four types of struggles
It’s neither written in our constitution nor I googled it out, I discovered after coming out form it.
Struggle to Survive
This is the highest and worst level of struggle where we can’t decide whether to continue our life or to hug tightly the bitter reality of this universe that is death. People try to succumb their life many times. Fortunately, some are successful in the first attempt. A few tries several times to hang themselves or jump from the terrace to attain salvation. But some people like me fight the battle hard to survive for the sake of parents and family. I tried thrice but failed to do so and unfortunately, I am alive to tell you about it. Suicidal attempts are common behaviour in people of this category.
Struggle to be OK
This is the second deadliest struggle where we harm ourselves continuously. Sometimes we hit our head hard against the wall or cut our hand to get physical pain. Punching against the wall or burning hands with fire are easily seen in this level. The purpose of doing this is just to get more physical pain than mental pain so that our attention shift towards the physical pain. It’s tough to stop our mind to think about those reasons which are bringing anxiety coz we don’t have control in our thoughts. We avoid taking meals in time coz we hate our body and our only intention is to hurt it. If you cut the veins of a person struggling at this level he/she will happily let the body bleed till it takes away his/her life.
Struggle to be Normal
This is the average level of struggle where we try to behave normally. Sometimes it takes hours to brush our teeth. Sometimes we stay in the washroom for hours without actually using it. These incidents are seen in people who struggle at this level. The only intention we have is to live a normal life and to adopt common behaviours. It makes us a dead fish who go with the flow. Especially in the corporate world, I have spent one of those seven months by working in a bank and I must tell you it didn’t bother me how my performance was.
Let our life go on the way it is. We don’t even pick the needle up when we see it’s fallen. Just because it is not required by us.
Struggle to be Better
This is the lowest and the most popular level of struggle. It is easily seen in everyone. Here we try a lot to increase our level in professional and personal life. We struggle to develop ourselves in various aspects of life. A depressed mind avoids unproductive talks with others and keeps pushing people away. We prefer spending time thinking about things rather than taking action. We prefer to stay at home over chilling with friends. Once we are used to our loneliness it becomes solitude and later, people become introvert.
Depression keeps us self obsessed with our thoughts.
If the words do not have to be curbed, then I would have explained in more details to you but stay tuned for my upcoming book where you will get to know more about depression and how to deal with it.
Ending up this article with one suggestion which will help you out to deal with it.
Depression is just in your mentality not in reality.
It’s visible only to you in your imaginary world because your mind has created it not the creator of this universe. Your terrifying thoughts do not have to be the reality of your life. I hope this article will help you a bit. Till then stay safe and stay tuned.
(If you liked my writing, I assure that you will like my love story book too. It is full of romance, twist, suspense, tears and other heart melting moments. I have shown what a boy can do when he is mad in love. To have a look click here.)
Every person has their own struggles but don’t you think being okay is overrated? I’m fine the way I’m. I don’t want to be okay or normal as people defined it.
Great article.
No I don’t think it is. The defination of ok is something else here. I am talking about physically OK.
Good job

So true, well written.Good job
Good work !! It’s okay not to be okay was conveyed well and how people have their own problems and how people judge them by their differences and struggle . People have to come out and speak about their struggle . Can elaborate more on ways to overcome and tell their stuggles.
Keep up with the good work

First of all I am so happy for you, that you are out of that phase now. Depression in itself is a big word to use. So I would like to suggest that you give a bit introduction of what it is because people use these terms inappropriately at times. Thank you.
