BASICS OF MENTAL HEALTH: EFFECTS OF POSITIVE MENTAL HEALTH

Though lately there is a lot of improvement in the way people interpret mental health and its effects, we still have a long way to go on this journey.

The realization that staying mentally sound is as important as being physically fit has still not been achieved. Positive mental health can influence one’s life on a whole new level.

It facilitates a person to listen to that feeble whisper within him/her, something known as one’s true self or conscience. It frees the mind of all clamor and chaos and helps maintain an everlasting silence, the silence that ripples in the waters of one’s soul, the silence that can bring answers to numerous unanswered questions.

It enables individuals to make the right decision, in the most distressing of times., even when one is trapped in the eye of the storm.

It makes people realize that the greatest source of energy, wisdom, and magic is found not in others, not in far-flung places but right within oneself and that the greatest advice comes from that voice deep within.

And when a man listens to his own heart or on a higher level his own soul, he begins to find meaning in his life, he begins to love himself and everything around. He strives to bring meaning into the lives of others as well. He begins to build positive relationships, he begins to understand the language of the universe, the music in nature, and the serendipity in this mortal life.

He begins to find beauty in all that’s around him and eventually, he begins to find himself. He begins to feel the vibrations of the world within himself, he begins to realize that nothing is permanent and that change is the only constant in life. He begins to appreciate every little aspect in his life and feels grateful for all that he has and for all that he lost.

He begins to understand that everything happens for a reason and that certain lessons in life will not be learned until he hits his absolute rock bottom. He begins to believe his instincts and that of others. He begins to forgive and forget the mistakes of others and also begins to realize that it is the imperfections and flaws found in a person that makes him/her unique and beautiful. His life begins to be a celebration, every moment begins to feel like a blessing and every new day begins to feel like a boon that he’ll be forever grateful for.

He begins to treat his life as his most prized possession. He begins to fear nothing and marches on as he has the greatest company of all, his own, true self.

And on a day to day basis, he will be able to set targets and achieve them quite easily. He practices kindness and spreads the light of love, eradicating the darkness in the lives of people.

He begins to smile more freely as nothin within him is holding him back. He stops complaining and works hard in whatever aspect of his life, by also loving the process at the same time.

A  positive mental state helps a person to cope with stress in a more efficient manner than a person in a mentally unstable state. A  person who is mentally sound can also perform exceptionally well in physical activities.

Since both the body and the mind are interconnected, mental well being can lead to physical well being too. Mental fitness can reduce the chances of heart attacks, depression and anxiety and can help the person to be in a lighter mood always.

Since the person is free from all mental and physical troubles, he/she has a higher chance of having better and sharper memory. It could also lead to a lower occurrence of memory disorders like anterograde and retrograde amnesias.

A mentally fit person gets the privilege of better and sound sleep. This could result in increased neurotransmission leading to better brain functions and consequently better body functions.  Mental health is an exemplar defense mechanism to stress, as it can reduce stress levels and also the negative effects of stress on the body like gastric ulcers, diabetes, skin conditions, arthritis, asthma among others.

It enables a person to manage his/her emotions and keep them organized and also to find a balance in life. It helps a person to have clarity in all that he/she does and this can result in exceptional performance by the subject. Mental health can also promote self-awareness within a person and this trait can prove really useful for the person to keep track of all his feelings and emotions.

The aspect of time management is also greatly improved by the presence of a calm and stable mind. Researches have shown that having a stable and positive state of mind can even help in curbing some life-threatening diseases like certain cancers and tumors.

The cognitive abilities of fit people are also seen to be much better than mentally unfit ones. It also boosts one’s immunity and makes one more resistant to common viruses and bacterias.

Due to the absence of all physical troubles too, mentally spound people are prone to live longer.  Such people can expand on their skills and are also capable of acquiring new skills.

They can view challenges differently since they see them as opportunities to prove their steel and not as a curse that comes to destroy them. Researches have proved that feelings are contagious. Ie, if a person is gloomy or sad, people around him/her are more susceptible to sadness than others. Similarly, a person with a positive mindset can radiate positivity all around him/her also unknowingly benefitting others around him/her.

Such people earn the trust of others easily and also live up to his/her expectations in whatever they do. In workplaces, such people with a positive mindset create a better environment not only for him/her but also the coworkers in the place.

The company of such people will always be enjoyed and appreciated. They never back off after a failure but strive to move on and make a comeback much stronger than the setback. They accept their mistakes, learn from them, and correct them.

To sum it all up, positive mental health can lead to the development of a person in numerous aspects, and above all, it drives the person to be a better human being.
