Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognition is a mental action pr process of acquiring and understanding knowledge through, thought, experience and success. Cognitive behavioral therapy identifies negative and harmful thought patterns that take place within our minds.  It operates as an owner’s manual for the mind. It provides tool to break the negative thinking paradigms. Most people ain’t aware of their pattern of thinking but when this pattern is negative it tends to hold people from fully expressed life. Thoughts, emotions and behavior each one of them impact the other two in positive or negative ways. Persistent negative thinking influences how you feel and that leads to destructive behavior that reinforce negative thoughts, in cbt this is known as cognitive behavioral triangle or cognitive loop. When emotions goes up, intellect comes down.

Psychiatrist Dr. Aaron Beck started research on how thoughts, emotions, and behavior are intimately connected. After several research and using cbt on clients, therapist realized techniques involved in CBT were extremely useful and valuable for challenging and changing negative limiting thoughts, they also noticed greater self-confidence and expression within their clients, patients reported they started feeling good in thier own skin. After some time cbt techniques and as their contributors such as Dr. David Burns entered the space techniques and the stratergies were leveraged and expanded in order to help cases with anxiety.

Key drivers of CBT are goal-oriented, self-coach ready, person-centered, flexible, and adaptable.

Unlike traditional therapy to understand emotions and feelings of the client cbt focuses on what is the main objective of the client (which is the goal) and set goals and plans to reach those objectives. CBT promotes self coach. It doesn’t only teach how to apply the techniques on the client but also learn how the techniques works. It can help the client how self coach can be used outside the therapy. CBT is rooted in research of being adaptable to various clients as some can be benifit by self talk aspect. CBT coaching is indeed person centered. This helps the client in isolate and correct the negative thought patterns that get in the way of their personal happiness and well being.
