What is Catastrophizing and its consequences

Catastrophizing: Catastrophizing is the cognitive disorder. Many psychologist believes that catastrophizing is born out of Anxiety. It starts with a small worry and slowly but surely we have consider every possible way that something could go wrong or already have decided that everything is going to go wrong.

It changes our mood and affect our thinking capacity. Our thoughts become negative this thinking affects our surroundings and only worst scenario can came out of this thinking disorder. It came out of fear also excessive fear can make a person to think catastrophic.

Example: I already made a mistake on this report – i’ll never finish it, or if i do, it’ll be so full of mistakes, it wont matter. I’m getting fired no matter what.”

Consequences of catastrophizing:
1. It affects our emotional as well as  mental health. A continuous negative thinking leads to negative emotions and negative emotions and thoughts affect our mood, work, relationship and our surroundings. It can create anxiety and depression in a person.
2. It’s affects our physical body also, pain catastrophizing. Catastrophizing thinking leads to chronic pain in the person the pain comes from terrible negative thoughts and feelings.
