TYPES OF PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS.

What a psychotic disorder is?

It is something where you lose touch with reality. These are serious illnesses that lead to abnormal thinking and perceptions.

Two main symptoms of this disorder are; Hallucinations and delusions.

Difference between the two,

Delusions are false beliefs that conflict with reality. These are the thoughts that are contrary to the actual evidence. Like a person feels that someone is plotting against them, someone is going to hurt them.

Whereas hallucinations are false perceptions, where a person sense things that are not actually present there.

For example, a person sees someone who is actually not there or hears their friend’s voice which isn’t happening in reality.

Types of Psychotic Disorders:

Schizophrenia: it is a severe mental illness that affects a person’s overall behaviour, how they feel, react, etc.

Its main symptoms are hallucinations, delusions and thought disorder. They are mainly diagnosed in teens and early thirties.

But it is treatable. Treatments focus mainly on managing symptoms.

Schizoaffective disorder: it is marked by schizophrenia disorders along with mood disorder symptoms, like depression.

It is important to talk to someone about what is happening to you and to see a doctor.

Treatments can be through drugs or talk therapy etc.

Brief Psychotic Disorder: it is a short-term display of psychotic disorder.

It happens shortly after a traumatic accident or loss of a loved one.

The person may or may not be aware of its strange behaviour.

Paraphrenia: it has symptoms similar to schizophrenia. But it starts late in life, in elders.

Shared Psychotic Disorder: it is a delusion among two or more people who are in a close relationship. It often becomes difficult for them to handle daily life. For example, your spouse has a mental disorder, say schizophrenia, he has a false belief, you also start to believe it.

Substance-induced psychotic disorder: it causes symptoms like delusion, hallucinations, etc. due to the misuse of drugs or due to sudden withdrawal from drugs.

Treatment includes both hospitalization and immediate treatment.

Psychotic disorder due to other medical conditions: this can happen because of other illnesses that affect the brain causing symptoms like hallucinations, delusions etc.

.

.

.

There are several types of treatments for psychotic disorders but not a particular cure.

Talk therapies, drugs are some of them. A person should be hospitalized if they seem to be dangerous to themselves or other people.

To conclude, I would really like to say that we should talk, speak. It is an ultimate treatment for mental illnesses.

If you feel disturbed speak it out to anyone you feel comfortable with, it helps!

Consult a doctor if you feel even the slightest of problem.
Thank you:)))

Hey Gloria
Thank you for the insight into psychotic diseases and for distinguishing the diseases from one another. Extremely helpful.

You have put a great effort into differentiating them! most of the times people prefer to live with it in a fear of judgement from others. It’s high time, mental health should be given priority before anything else
