Guide towards Self Healing

Understand Yourself

Self-healing begins with an understanding of self. You cannot love or let alone heal someone you don’t understand. To understand yourself, go and explore your own depths. Try understanding your own likes and dislikes, your comfort zones, etc. just as you would for a dear loved one or someone who you really wanna be friends. If making a mental note doesn’t help, try journaling, write your thoughts down. Make tracks of your thoughts, what are they about? Who are they often about? Are most of them toxic or counterproductive? Or are they positive and nurturing? Try asking yourself questions as you would to anyone you might be interested in knowing better.

Accept Yourself

Understanding yourself is just the beginning as after understanding yourself you have to accept yourself. Acceptance of self can be hard at times. We often easily beat ourselves up over the tiniest of tiny things. Yet if someone else were to do the same action, we let it slide past us, usually without batting an eye. We often excuse other people’s actions by telling ourselves that they are ‘just human’ yet we often forget this especially when the application of this excuse comes to self. You are just a Human Being. We all make mistakes. Mishaps happen. We all at times do things that might put us in embarrassing positions. But don’t beat yourself up over it for too long. Accept that it happened and move on. Accept that it is a part of yourself. You can’t be perfect as perfection is one of the greatest lies ever told. Therefore, accept that you are a human being. Accept that like all other humans, you too are flawed. Accept your imperfections.

Forgive Yourself

To forgive oneself can be challenging. We have often accustomed ourselves to dote on our own flaws and we hurt ourselves at times in attempts to fix our flaws or we punish ourselves if we are not able to fix them. This can be very toxic. After accepting yourself, forgive yourself. Again, you are just a human being, you are so much bigger than your flaws even if they too are a wonderful part of you. Forgive yourself for not being perfect, but rather love yourself for trying every day to be the best version of yourself.

Be your most true authentic self

It is understandably hard to be yourself in our society, where one might get judged over the most absurd thing. But in order to heal, you have to be you. You are one of a kind in over 7 billion people. There is a reason why you are the way you are. By being yourself you are not only lifting off the huge burden of trying to hide or to be someone else but you are also shearing off people who would have never loved/liked the real you. By being yourself you are giving others a chance to see the real you, thus the ones who stay even after seeing the real you are the real ones. Don’t be afraid to shred off people who are toxic or people who were never meant to stay. It can be a hard process. But the end results and the improvement in the quality of people in your life are worth it.

Try to be the best version of who you are

You might not be the best version of yourself when you start your journey in self-healing as it is completely understandable that if you aren’t. But there is always room for improvement. Your quality as a person is a very important factor for you to thrive. Don’t be afraid to learn new things. Expand your horizons as in that process you will expand yourself.  Learn new things about your hobbies and interests. Visualize what your best version is like and then be them. Don’t try to be someone else in the process though. Take inspiration from other people but always remember who you are.

Have faith in yourself

Self-healing is not at all an easy process. You cannot expect drastic results overnight, in days or at times even weeks. But you will get there one day as healing can be a slow process. Be patient and have faith. You cannot expect years of toxic habits towards yourself to be broken in mere days. Habits and behaviors take time to change. It does help that now you are trying to change your own attitude towards yourself. But it will take time. Your wounds will heal once you stop picking on them. Therefore have faith in yourself as healing will take time. At times you might not realize how far you have come till you reflect upon your past self. But rest assured, if you have the will to heal you will heal.

Somethings that you can help you heal

  • Taking a break

At times it becomes a necessity to break away from your daily routine as you might get too saturated mentally with the same repetition of the same tasks and activities. Taking a break helps you refresh your mind.

  • Try breaking a bad habit or an unhealthy addiction

It is better said than done. But do try doing it. Seek help from external sources such as professionals and support from trusted loved ones. A little determination can go a very long way.

  • Meditate

It can be a little hard at first to do. But as you do more of it, maybe you will find calm and peace that it generates from within.

  • Practice positive self-affirmations

Positive self-affirmations can be very powerful as they eventually become words that become ingrained in your subconscious that you start to believe consciously. Therefore also beware of negative affirmations as they might eventually result as a very counterproductive factor to your self-healing.

  • Take care of yourself physically

Mental, emotional, and physical health go hand in hand more often than one might think. Simple acts such as taking a shower, dressing up, exercising or eating healthy can go a long way. Such things make you feel good from the outside which at times diffuses and makes you feel good from within.

  • Set boundaries

We sometimes go out of our way as well as our comfort zone in order to help somebody else. While it is a very noble thing to do, doing it time and time again at the expense of your emotional or mental health can be a self toxic trait. By setting boundaries you are respecting yourself enough into not doing something that might come at the expense of your own mental health.

  • Dealing with the Past

Past can be at times very haunting. It can cause impairment from your healing. By understanding that what has happened cannot be changed and moving on towards building a better future could help. But if you feel as if you are unable to deal with it, do seek help from outside sources such as professionals.

Self healing is not all internal. Thus when healing, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Seeking help from loved ones who you trust and who care about you can be an excellent way to help you heal. Seek professional help as well as they will be better able to guide you in your healing journey.

Aashna Parekh

A really good introduction to self healing for any individual! You could have increased the quality of the article by using more italics and bolds.

This is very helpful. Agree with the concept of self-healing and self-awareness. As the saying goes, you can’t pour from an empty cup. You cannot help others if you don’t fully understand yourself.

In an era, where we are forced to act as if everything is perfect, even though we are battling pain and struggles on a daily basis deep down, this article beautifully marks its relevance. The fact that we all are humans and that it is okay to make mistakes creates a feeling of comfort and consolation within I am sure that this piece of writing will help the readers in their journey towards self-healing and self-discovery too. Looking forward to reading more of your works!

It’s a beautiful article, as it talks about a very important topic. And you have written it extremely well by covering a lot of relevant topics. But I feel you could’ve worked more on the structure of the article , working on the presentation a bit more would have enhanced the article even more . But overall the article was very well written and keep up the good work !

Aishwarya

Thanks a lot for your constructive advice! I will make sure to use it next time!

Radhika Saini

A very helpful guide! I like the simplicity of your post but I believe you need to focus more on the presentation. Using bold or italics would help the reader differentiate between the content and sub-topic and if you are using bulletins, make sure you use them for all the sub-headings or don’t use them at all; this again will help the reader identify that it is a sub- heading and not an other component of the article. You can add some pictures to beautify the same. Overall, the post is great and easy to understand!

Aishwarya

I will definitely take your advice into account and work on my presentation. Thanks a lot for the positive and constructive feedback and for the advice!

Thryaksha Ashok Garla

The introduction can include information about what is self-healing, the importance of self-healing. The article can also give examples of self-healing methods, examples that can be applicable in real-life situations. The language and writing are nice and easy to understand. Also, the methods are an eye-opener for people who do not take mental health seriously.

Aishwarya you have chosen a topic that totally fits in according to the era we live in where we are constantly comparing our own-selves. I personally think you could have included more factors about how one can deal with their inner turmoil and also emphasized more than internal peace of mind. It was quite indulging the article you have written that I couldn’t stop myself from reading it until i have completely read it till the end.
Well researched also.
