Hello everyone out there!

This is my experience please give it a read, hope you guys like it.

Psychology!

When I was in 9th grade I came across the word psychology for the very time and was quite fascinated by term. My elder sister who was in 11th grade always had a fear a day before her psychology exam and as much as I was fascinated by the term I was eager to know about it

I used to sit next to her and tried understanding concepts on my level and experience that "AAHHH" moment

Every concept was quite interesting and made me think about this subject alot

'Wow can we understand how human mind works?'

'Is human brain and mind two different things?'

'how come it is possible that by just sharing our experiences/problems/stuff we feel relaxed?'

Were few questions which always ran in my mind

And as by the passing time I learned about the subject and understood it in detail I found how things work and what is psychology as a science - as a subject matter - as a field.

And as I told everyone in my family everyone was so fascinated that what a wonderful subject I opted for and People in my family and friends reached out though I told them I'm not a professional or licensed psychologist they said me "being a psychology student you will understand well and please just listen to us" and that point I realized how people in today's time need a ear to listen their things

What I understood was you just don't need a psychology student you just need a ear to listen

And it's totally normal to discuss about your mental health and What's going on your mind.

Share your thoughts and feelings with the one you trust or if you seek for professional help go for one it's just as normal as we visit a doctor for routine checkup

Don't let the social stigmas or myths about mental health stop you

Feel comfortable to reach for help as from my experiences just one discussion reduces a lot or burden from your mind.

Trust me I do it for myself to at times just sit beside my favourite person and vent out everything going in mind and I feel relaxed

So I would conclude saying

Try to reach out to people about what's going on in your mind it's normal and healthy for you

Thank youuuuu😊

@kritikabhair relatable

@kritikabhair This is really insightful! Glad to know that your family members were super supportive and curious to know and understand the subject more. Them reaching out was also a great step ahead to accepting your choice. I completely agree that sometimes all people need is someone to listen to them without giving any advice and just try to patiently understand them!

@kritikabhair very well said. I totally related with you in the fact that even as a student of psychology my family asks me for my opinion and advice, and I always say the same thing that I am not a psychologist yet and even then as family I would not be the right person to approach in the professional sense. But gradually even I realized that it was more about having someone who would listen, my academia just played a role in giving my family an extra nudge to choose me as the person to speak to.

You had an amazing experience and you have got the support of your family. Its so true that you just need a ear to listen to. It helps a lot to express all the feelings and emotions swirling inside.  And yes Psychology is really interesting and insightful subject.

Hello. that's such a thrilling experience. It's great how you are fascinated by psychology at a young age. Helping people is good but just be careful sometimes a wrong advice might spoil their life. We are not professionals yet. But it's good to help just recommend them to a professional if u think its needed. Talking to family and friends is really helpful. its a therapy in its self. Good job. keep working hard. 😀

Hey, thank you for writing it. It was as if you were embedding the same curiosity in us too that you had as a child. Psychology does talk about all this. And yes you are absolutely right, you don't necessarily need to be a psychology student but anyone can absorb the values of our subject to become a better listener, to be more empathetic, objective, non judgemental and respecting all perspectives and experiences. Further agreeing with you that it is primarily our responsibility to reach out to people and keep a check on them rather than expecting them to reach out to us when they are in trouble.

Hey Krithika , very well written . This was indeed so relatable for me because I too was fascinated getting to know the subject. 'Try to reach out to people about what's going on in your mind it's normal and healthy for you ' - these words are very much correct as many of us think that it is abnormal or weird to visit psychologist but as you said is to have a healthy and peaceful mind. Good Luck... 😊

Well said dear!

We are social beings, we need to be loved, to be heard, to be empathised with. All, whether from psychology or not, must inculcate this habit to nurture relationships and lend an ear to someone, while also sharing your experiences with others and not suffering alone.

Good work!!
