Hello all,

I can't wait to share my experience with you'll, to begin with i always aimed of becoming a Doctor (pediatrician to be precise) that was my  aim even almost 4 months prior to my 10th Boards little did i know everything is gonna turn upside down, being a rank student at school i always had this pressure for meeting their expectations on me which eventually ended up me contracting panic attacks and fear of exams so worse that i couldn't even look at books, that's the first time i came across a psychiatrist for counselling and therapies things came to a little normal and I passed my boards and ended up taking up commerce in 11th just to escape from the pressure associated with science, but my therapy with another psychologist continued as you all know it's a long process and i also thought' there may be so many of them like me why can't I also be a help to them and that's when i realized mental health had such great role to play' that's when i discovered you could still choose psychology with Humanities and that's when i decided to opt BA in psychology for my undergraduation , i completed it and sideby I even completed my diploma in counseling which makes me a certified counselor now and am also doing my various therapy courses through distance. And I am a health psychologist  aspirant :), I Have zero regrets choosing this subject as my profession, I've enjoyed and only enjoyed learning psychology .the subject has personally helped me controlling my emotions, my behaviour, to empathize better way and to be non judgemental.

To everyone who is reading this, don't loose hopes no matter how worse it can get, everyone is a fighter just that we need a little emotional  support, and if your lacking in it you can always ask me for it.

Good luck

@nishithas roller coaster is what life is all about! But at the end it definitely lands you to a safe destination. Though your life has been completely unpredictable but see where it has brought you now! You are in a happy place. Your story was very inspiring and interesting!

@nishithas Thanks for sharing your story. It really does sound like quite the rollercoaster!

@nishithas Hey Nishitha, that's a very inspiring story indeed. First of all, it is really good and heartwarming to know that you are in a really better place emotionally right now. I remember, even I had this constant pressure back at school to perform well and then later, take up Sciences in my 11th. I am glad that your therapy sessions had an impact on you in a positive and life- changing way.

Also, I find this whole concept of health Psychology interesting. I believe that health is an important aspect, especially one's physical health that needs to be considered while learning Psychology. I have heard about Psycho- Oncology. I do not know much about the subject, because I am still in my final year of MSc Counselling Psychology. However, this is something I'd love to look into 🙂 I am also looking forward to having a conversation with you someday, regarding your experience doing the course and the experiences you've had at work. I wish you all the best for the future. I hope you enjoy whatever you do everyday and impact many lives positively.

Even I have had varied interests till 9th class. First I wanted to be a Pediatrician for I was highly impressed by mine. Then I joined Astronomy Club in 6th class and wanted to be an astronaut. But after watching Gravity, I dropped the idea and decided to stick with Astronomer. Then in 7th when I received an award for creative writing I wanted to be an author and publish novels. But it was in 9th when I myself faced anxiety that I decided to explore Psychology as a field. And here I am in a psychology undergrad course!

Hey Nishitha, thank you for sharing your experiences with us. So glad you overcame it. It was very unfortunate but everything happens for a reason and you found your calling, congratulations on that. I have had similar experiences in relation to exams and I still have a stage fright and I am attempting to overcome it. This was very inspiring. More power to you.

Back then people didn't really care about mental health ( that's still the same in some parts of our society) and very rarely people think of becoming a mental health expert. I'm so happy that you've become a part of our community .

Happy to have enthusiastic people like you!

Nishitha S Topic starter December 15, 2020 3:42 pm

Very true, let's work together in normalizing mental health and showing its importance, and also thank you 🙂
