It’s not that easy to understand people around you, the person who is going through hard times fears to pour his/her mind out thinking about how the other person will respond to it, and hence rather than explaining what they are facing, he/she feels to cover it with a smile and present themselves as happy-go-lucky kind. These suppressed thoughts lead towards destruction of self or others.
So, if you find a person who is going through mental illness, how can you help him/her? Assure them whenever you find them in doubt. Listen to them attentively and ensure them that you are understanding what they said. Give your time and provide some space to them so that they can comfortably share their problems with you.
It’s very essential to lend an ear to them and have a heart to accept their problems and show a way to come out of it. Remember, if you can’t find a solution to help them out at least do not be a troublemaker for them.
Think before you criticize, think before you judge. Your negative comment on someone can make their life hell. Remember it’s your perspective of taking things, some other person may have a different perspective.
Appreciation always brings better results than criticism. If you feel something wrong or worrying you continuously, talk about it peacefully whatever it may be.
Most importantly, remember that if someone you know is suffering from a mental illness, tell them, you are not alone. Assure them that ‘I am here for you’. Make them feel important about themselves and try to fill them with hope. When you feel it’s not enough, suggest seeking the help from a professional. Tell them not to bottle up their emotions.
All that has to be done is to help oneself because only one can decide whether he has to be happy. Proper treatment can help us lead a happy life. We must feed our mind with positive thoughts so as to lead a meaningful, productive and cherished life.
