Psycho oncology is a relatively new field and not every psychology student may not be known to it. I've read about this and it's amazing how mental wellbeing can improve even conditions like cancer!
The researches say that cancer patients, when given therapy showed little improvement in their symptoms and lived longer and most importantly, mentally healthy lives.

Hey, thank you so much for this informative article! It does seem relatively new because it wasn't there when my mother was going through her treatment, I'm sure if it was there, it would have helped and given her a lot of strength! This is a new field in psychology. It's obvious that you need to the experts before going ahead. An addition to this are therapy clowns,who go around and help people especially kids and geriatric adults. The places that you can apply in India are,
1. Cancer institute WIA, Adyar Chennai (MPhil., PhD)
2. COPER, Bangalore (1 Yr diploma)
3. TATA Hospital, Kolkata (1 Yr fellowship program)
