So here’s my journey of Psychology.

In January 2017 TMNP conducted an IQ test for our school. I was just unaware of all the modules and just thinking that it’s just a test to check your aptitude or a journal survey for their particular organisation. After few months I got our results and got to know that I am a higher IQ person (above 99 percentile). As the whole field was unknown for me I was unable to trust all things. But when they started attending their sessions we got to know all things. There were 12 nurturing program and the counselling session was one of them. When I get counselled by my mentor that was really turning point of my career. Before it I was aiming to get enrol for deafens especially for the air force. As there is lack of physical fitness I was unable to draw the whole picture about it and very soon it got off from my career perspective. But as the counselling session changed my entire emotional wellbeing, it may overwhelming at this stage, but it was really very important for me at that time even for today too. That time I thought, if one session can change me like this, it is definitely helpful to those who are in mental trouble. I was in such environment where mental health is not getting more importance. After counselling session I was really amazed with my thoughts .I was very image conscious person, very strict about the rules (it was like, if they harm me still I must follow them.)There was no one to whom I share my problems genuinely. Not even my parent and friends. I got so many good solutions for it in the counselling session. Implementation of those guidelines helped me a lot. And that’s the time where I got curious about psychological things/wellbeing. As I was in same Junior college with science stream I was unable to take psychology as a subject. Parental pressure or teacher’s pressure made me to do so. Now I am in studying in first year for Bachelor of Arts with the subject psychology and going to do specialisation in it till MA (for sure).I want to do PHD but let’s see what happens with it. That time I was sure for counselling psychology but now I am getting a little bit confused for the further specialisation. For that I am trying to figure out my interest by interning in different mental health organisations.

@radha Your story really shows how aptitude and IQ tests help to figure out our career choices. This will inspire many to trust the process and further take the right decisions. Also, all the best to find a specialization but psychology is a great field wherein you can work in diverse fields irrespective of your specialization. 🤗

Career counselling sessions in school are an absolute boon and to think that even that is conducted by psychologists! Even I was able to switch from science to humanities although with maths only after my parents attended one such session with me. Best of luck to you for your future!

Its so nice to hear about your experience, I had a similar experience with a really good school counsellor as well! It really can be very inspiring, I hope you find your field of interest in psychology (I'm still seeking too) and its nice to hear about how you've made use of internships to help expand your exposure to the subject and those in the field. All the best!

@janhavisiyer it's a bit tricky in the beginning to decide which field you want to specialise in. I was in the same dilemma until few months ago but I'm sure you'll  know where you want to go once you have reached that point.

Thank you for sharing your journey. I am sure you will find your way, it is often confusing cause there are so many specialisations, most of it we aren't even aware but hope you are able to figure it out as well.

Hey Neha! Reading what you wrote makes me happy. The slightest and most unexpected things can often assist you in making the greatest decisions in life sometimes. I mean, reading this, you won't believe my decision to take up Psychology as a career was because of someone I randomly met in train after my 12th boards. Silly how surprising life can be. I like the fact that you're determined to do Master's. I wish you the best!

Hey, first of, that was a very beautiful story, and something I'm sure most of us could connect to, because it isn't always easy to follow your passion due to the hurdles we face. Its always tough in the beginning as sometimes we're not sure what we want and how to achieve it, but I'm so glad you stayed put. And it's even more great to hear about the counseling sessions you received which helped you realize where you want to be. Hope you celebrate your achievements and failures too, all the best!🍃

Hello. It's a beautiful story. Though in confusion trust me research works the best. Collect as much information as you can and read s much possible relating to the field of interest. You will do great in the field you choose. It might be little tough in the beginning but you will pass it like you did in the past. All the very best. Don't worry about failures , they help us grow. focus on learning. 😀
