Changing a self-destructive mindset into a productive one

Every human being at some point, intentionally or unintentionally captivates self-destructive behavior. The main concern is what you are going to do about it. It’s not necessary that you will have to live with it your whole life. You can always throw away the wrong attitude whenever you want but it all depends on you. Are you ready to accept the wrong behavioral pattern that you hold? Are you willing to do something about it? A little bit of courage and you can positively bend yourself to answer these questions with your actions and become a better version of yourself.

Now coming to what you can do to convert this negative energy into a positive one, here are few points that you can follow to have a happy and healthy mind and do productive things for a better life:

  • Keep Your Mind Occupied

“An empty mind is a devil’s workshop.” You must have heard this phrase before which suggests how an empty mind starts to play shenanigans. It certainly brings no good and if you have even a slight of self-destructive behavior, it can be worse.  So, it’s better to keep your mind occupied by engaging yourself in different activities. The basic motive is to distract yourself as much as possible which will not give your brain the time to think of irrelevant thoughts.

If you still don’t have any idea about where you can start, try coloring. It may sound childish to you but psychology has proved that coloring brings the utmost help to reduce the stress. The vibrant colors will help you clearing your thoughts and keep your mind relaxed.

  • Improve Your Skills

Confidence is the key and there couldn’t be anything better than being confident because your brain then wouldn’t require the support of superficial things to make you feel better, when you can make yourself better. But how will you bring this confidence?

Keep educating yourself, learn new things or refine the skills you already have. The more knowledge or skills you gain the more it will enhance the confidence inside you. You will feel powerful which will help you to move forward.

  • Social Interaction

Keep interacting with different people. And no, we’re not asking you to become a social butterfly but try not to confine yourself in your comfort zone. Meeting different people or making conversations can help your mind to understand various aspects or different perspectives. It will help you to broaden the horizons of your mind that you were trying to limit either knowingly or unknowingly.

  • Surround Yourself With Positivity

Have you ever heard of ‘Law of Attraction’?  This phenomenon suggests that positive will attract positive while negative will attract only negative. If you will have positive thoughts, the outcome will also be positive and with negative thoughts, the outcome will be negative. And that’s why it is very important to surround yourself in a positive filled atmosphere.

Nick Vujicic once said “Some injuries heal more quickly if you keep moving”. These injuries don’t have to be bruises on your body, it can also be those scars imprinted on your soul or wounds left inside your brain. But as he said, if you keep moving and keep trying, it will definitely start to heal. All you need to have is a positive influence on you which you can get by listening to motivational speakers, good music, reading good books and eating healthy food.

  • Exercise And Yoga

Keep your body fit; maintain your body weight, strength and level up the stamina because a healthy mind requires a healthy body. If you like fast and upbeat things then you can schedule out a number of exercises and make it an Aerobic or a Zumba session. If your preference is more of a calm and slow approach then Yoga is best for you and let’s not even get started counting the number of benefits Yoga can actually give.

  • Meditation

According to Bhagavad Gita “Mind is the friend of those who have control over it, mind acts like an enemy for those who do not have control on it;” and meditation is the process of washing the mind by the mind so you have your thoughts under your control.

The art of Meditation is not something that you can get overnight. It demands to proffer a lot of time and patience to achieve even a bit of it. But the practice itself will bring you a positive change. Once you start practicing to regulate or control your thoughts, you will start replacing the toxicity with harmless doings and will ultimately adapt healthy ways of living.

  • Professional Help

Sometimes, it’s hard to work on your own. Take advices from experts. Tell them your concerns, worries, your weak points, strong points, about your addictions, obsessions (over anything) and even your vulnerable points. The more you share the more it can lessen your burden. And it can absolutely be anything you want to share, which you might have been burying inside your chest for so long.

In order to change your self-destructive behavior, it’s important for you to take steps ahead but to become a better you and a productive you, it’s more important for you to push your limits slowly and gradually. Start by planning your day, make a checklist of all those tasks (and even the things that you need to relax) that you’re supposed to do in a day and concentrate on completing it.

What do you think?

Much needed topic in current era(s). More practical keys have been employed, apart from that reducing recidivistic behavior is missing. other therapies of CBT approach can be followed for future purpose
