CAUSALGIA/CRPS(Complex regional pain syndrome)

ABOUT CAUSALGIA

Causalgia/complex regional pain syndrome (CPRS). It is known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD). It is a broad term describing excess and prolonged pain and inflammation that follows an injury to an arm or leg. It’s a neurological disorder that can produce long-lasting, intense pain.

SYMPTOMS

  • Severe burning sensation and pain in affected limb, (usually found in arms, feet, legs & hand) as if was being squeezed.
  • Swelling & stiffness in the affected area causing hypersensitivity..
  • Abnormalities in bone, excess sweating, skin discoloration at the site of affected area.

CAUSES

  • Fractures
  • Surgery
  • Sprains/strains
  • Lesser injuries such as burns or cuts
  • Limb immobilization
  • Very rare penetrations
  • Poor nerve health

TREATMENTS

The earliest treatments can recover at a good pace. Movement of the limbs, keeping the painful limb moving improves blood flow, flexibility, strengthens functioning of the limb aka physical therapy. Psychological treatments helps people deal with former causing depression, situational anxiety, and sometimes post-traumatic stress disorder i.e. PsychotherapySeveral medications, given on time gives effective results including Acetaminophen, Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) & various other steroids & antidepressants. Advisable not to have self-medications, do consult a doctor.

Hence it is super advisable to take sooner actions for effective treatments. Prolonged pain might also take a toll on your mental health. Causalgia aka CRPS is a serious & complex syndrome.
