What really is Depression?

Depression

It is a disorder or a mental illness, which negatively affects the way you feel and think. conditions that affects with the elevation or disturbing a persons mood is maybe called as depression. It can affects the person’s daily life. Depression can be related to feeling of sadness, loss or anger.

Symptoms may include changes in sleep pattern, loss of appetite, losing energy level and concentration, changes in behavior or self esteem. This may lead to thoughts of suicide. 7.5% of Indians suffer from mental disorders in 2020. According to the numbers 56 million Indians are suffer from this.

In 2020 everyone found it difficult to do something due to the COVID-19 situation. We all faced tough situations and felt that all the doors were closed in the which ever direction we turn. There came a situation where kids weren’t allowed to go out to play, and they wouldn’t understand why.

Depression in different sectors of society:

Depression has drastically increased in youngsters. And some of the reasons were digitalization. Youngsters haven’t realized how the social media has taken over them. And they go depressed seeing comments from unknown people. Social media is a open platform where anyone can comment anything ,anywhere. Youths takes everyone’s comments seriously not knowing people have different opinion and preferences.

So educate them properly and Precisely. If your kid is not behaving the same way he/she is don’t criticize them. Instead try to know what is bothering them. And In case he/she opens up their problem, please don’t degrade them or shout at them for what they did or feel. Instead try to explain things. Make them feel comfortable. Elderly person may get depressed when they are not happy with their family, because of work pressure or loss. Happiness among family is essential.

One thing we have to know is to handle depressed people. How do you know when someone is depressed? That particular person’s behavior starts changing. They avoid social gatherings. People who are close to that person can feel drastic change in their personality.

They refuse to eat. They may always be sad or get angry quickly. This may lead to suicidal thoughts. So if a person is changing or you feel the change, don’t consider that they are creating drama. They may really have something bad in life. Go to them and talk a little. If you are close to them, try getting their favorite things. Take them out for a walk. Give them assurance. They may not open up, at least they’ll feel they have someone.
