What is it?

It’s Normal to fear anxious in a social situation but feeling a constant fear and having anxiety thinking of social situation or being in one is social anxiety

Social anxiety is a mental health condition which creates irrational anxiety when a person interacts with other in social settings

It’s also known as social phobia.

In certain cases it’s developed  because of  constant fear of judgements,

Being nervous of every action and thinking that every action will lead to certain embarrassment and more self conscious about every action.

It’s basic symptoms include:

  • Difficulty in interaction.
  • Having constant fear in interaction and getting into a social situation.
  • Worrying about finding themselves in embarrassing or humiliating situation.

Physical symptoms include

  • Nausea
  • Upset stomach
  • Trembling
  • Sweating
  • Muscle tension
  • Increased Heart palpitations

People with social anxiety may avoid

  • Eating in public
  • Interaction with strangers
  • Making eye contacts
  • Entering to crowded places
  • Initiating conversation

It can be inherited or due to some environmental conditions too.

And this leads to Low self esteem, low confidence, poor social skills, poor communication skills, poor interpersonal skills, isolation, unassertive, refusing great social opportunities, having difficulty in managing social relationships.

How can you deal-

  • Get help through a medical professional if you find difficulty and daily social interactions and get too much anxious in a social situation
  • Prioritize issues
  • Give yourself positive self affirmation
  • Practice in front of mirror before entering in social situation
  • Go for therapeutic treatment

It’s not the same as the general anxiety one experience before performing a task. This continues for a long duration and person finds difficulty in interacting and managing themselves social situation.
