Parenting and Mental Health; A Must Read Article

Parenting and Mental Health

We all have heard this dialogue once in our lifetime that our parent told us “behave properly or else our relatives or surroundings will blame me what kind of parenting you have done. Yes, parenting is one of the most important things. It is the most responsible job to develop and bring a child into a better and good human being.

Parenting or child rearing is the process of promoting and supporting the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of a child from infancy to adulthood.

So as a parent every couple has the responsibilities to bring the child and support them physically, mentally, socially, from child to adulthood. It is a time and space where the children is dependent on their parents. Seeing this new world and atmosphere the infancy needs support to explore and new things to the world.so parents play an effective role in guiding the child.

HOW EFFECTIVE PARENTING MUST BE?

From childhood to a certain age children’s need the support and guidance of their parents. So parents must teach and cultivate good culture and practice in them. Every child is born as a good soul, the behaviour and the character changes of what they taught and what they see. So its responsibilities of parents should guide the children by telling good values and practices.

Communication is most important aspects among parents and children. Treat your child as your best friend. Communicate with them in a friendly manner. Have a friendly space in a way where your child’s share his/her feelings with you without any fear. As a parent talks only about positive things and attitude. As a child, they get easily attracted to their surroundings. So as a parent behave and use appropriate words in front of your children’s.

Most of the characters and behaviours of children are inherited by the surrounding. So don’t behave aggressively in front of your children. Teach good value system for your children it is the most important responsibility that the parent should do. Behave in a good manner, in such a way your children’s should follow.

Most of the children’s behaviour changes because of the lack of priority given to the children by the parents. Instead of monitoring your children have a friendly relationship with them. Instead of punishing them for their mistake, take them to their favourite place sit along with them and have a talk. Ask them what made you do this mistake, why did you behaved like that or ask them as a parent did I done any mistake. Instead of dominating they give them a space to talk. After they finished telling, as parent advice the child not to repeat that mistake again. And tell what will be the consequence will be faced when he or she does the mistake.

Parenting is not a very big task, it is simply about understanding your child emotion and have a good relationship in order to enhance them as a better human being.

The bond between parent and children should be in a transparent way. This happens only when the parent starts to trust and have believed in their children. Be confident that your child will be behaving properly. In this, there should be balance like you should over monitor your child or leave your child carelessly. Be strict in the situation you want to be, but don’t be over dominative and superior. Always listen to your children and make sure you listen to them when they talk. There should always be two-way communication between parent and children. As a working parent, obviously, you have less time to spend and create a bond with your children. But also try to have a convo with your children for at least 10 min. at last, it is all about balancing life.

As a parent taking care of your children, mental health is very important. Because everybody faces lots of struggles and sadness in daily life. As a growing child, they may expose too many problems. So be attentive in your child’s mental health. See to that what he or she is going on. Never pressurize the children for scoring marks and comparing them with other children, this is one of the major stress the child’s face. Stop comparing your children with other children. Talk to them if they have any problems in their school or with their friend. In that, they will be relaxed and they relieve from these temporary situations. Most of the child attempt suicide because they do not have a proper person to share their feeling, even they get fed up when their parent won’t understand in their tough situation. As a parent you have also faced this kind of struggles so please be flexible to your children’s and understand their emotions too

POSITIVE PARENTING TIPS:

Listen to your children’s when they want to say something.

Have good communication with your child.

Don’t be over dominant as you are parent treat them in a friendly way.

Don’t compare your child with other children’s.

If they do any mistake instead of punishing them advice and talk with them.

Teach about good habits, moral values and system.

“Children are educated by what the grown-up is and not by his talk.” – Carl Jung

“Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person’s character lies in their own hands.” – Anne Frank

Nicely and broadly covered topic, you’ve done a deeper research on the topic and thoughtfully put forth your content. It as an extremely relevant topic. I liked how you used quotes of various important figures and initially gave an outline of each sub topic. A small tip that may help you would be to proof read your content, as well as work on the minor grammatical errors. Doing so will create a stronger impact on the readers.
Apart from this minute thing it was a great attempt at writing. Keep going!☺️

This is well researched content and very relatable. You’ve highlighted the importance of good parenting because children from a young age are very sensitive to the cues in their environment which reflects in their further development and mental well being. The tips for good parenting added in the end was helpful. good work! 🙂

It was a much needed article. We do need more understanding parents. I would like to suggest that you can also include the concept of helicopter parenting to make the point more clear and specific. Thank you.
