Influence of Sigmund Freud and other American psychologist

Sigmund Freud, a child who was born in a rented house to a Galician Jewish parents became an astonishing neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis. He was certified as a doctor of medicine from University of Vienna and started working there as a professor. Freud left Austria due to inflict of Nazi and moved to United Kingdom. His tremendous work of psychoanalysis consists of Id, Ego and Super Ego, Oedipus Complex, Repression and Defense Mechanism. Freud’s career focus has principally been neurology, psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. He has also contributed some phenomenal books namely Beyond the pleasure principle (1920) The future of illusion (1927) An outline of psychoanalysis (1940) and many more. Freud’s work has outstandingly influenced the world of psychology to  a level where he is known to be the Father of Modern psychology.

Some other amazing psychologist who have contributed to psychology includes Carl Jung. Jung was highly influenced by Sigmund Freud and they also collaberated with each others idea on human psychology. He considered a term called individuation meaning a psychological process that goes lifelong, defining an individual based on conscious and unconscious elements. His key focus in this field was individuation, analytical psycholoy and collective unconsciousness.

Another efficient contributors has been Ivan Pavlov, he has put in the theory of conditioning learning. The theory speaks about unconscious responses to stimuli based on their association with some rewards. He is famously known for his experiment naming Pavlov’s Dogs. Classical conditioning and reflex action was his other areas of focus.

American psychologist has been extraordinarily well in contributing to their field with their hardwork and will to know better about human behavior.

Amazing work

Sreejita Sarkar

Freud is the greatest gift and enigma to the world of psychology, and you couldn’t have portrayed it better. It would be wonderful to read about more Neo-Freudians and details of Freud’s theories in your writings.

Ilhaam Shaik

Beautifully written. Amazing! It gave me more insights!

Sayeeda Zaiba

Amazing work Neha. I may not know much about Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung and Ivan P Pavlov, but everytime I read about them I’m left astonished.
Like it’s almost unbelievable that they were able to produce such great work and observations at their times. For instance, Sigmund Freud’s Five-stage theory of personality development. It never fails to amaze me how the theory had been so controversial about the Oedipus complex but still is the bases of personality development. Or Carl Jung’s division of humans as either introverts or extroverts had me wondering about how it all makes sense. Or how Pavlov’s dog experiment first introduced the concept classical conditioning and positive association. Did you know that Pavlov was actually experimenting his dog to see some kind of chemical release but ended up changing his experiment seeing the dogs reaction to the experiment?
Thank you for this article. I look forward to read more of your works and learn more from you.

Very clearly written the out line of the contribution of each influencer. Infact Freud had a great deal of contribution in the area of the conscious and unconscious experiences and their influence on humans. He spoke about how our actions are controlled largely by the unconscious mind and since the other 2 contributors namely Carl Jung and Ivan Pavlov have also given their ideas on the unconscious element so a combined interpretation of the connection between the three could also be given which can show the greater impacts they have placed by them in the field.
In Pavlov’s contribution mentioning of the unconditioned and conditioned stimulus and responses could also be mentioned similarly in the case of Carl Jung’s idea of psychoanalysis as understanding the mind, soul and the spirit.
when noted closely all there influencers have described a kind of learning and personality. while stating their influence, it would be helpful to mention what kind of influence or what kind of impact they left in their field would give a clear picture of what they have done.

Amrita Jain

it was good but still it could be better. You can describe the work and criticism faced by signum fraud and the setting in which he conducted experiments and regarding other its too prescribed to pass on clear information and to be attractive.

Janhavi S.

A good summation of these three psychologists!
To add on to Freud’s contribution, the concepts of id, ego and superego were seen as lifelong and the balance between the three different aspects was known to be important to balance for the development of what can be described a healthy personality.

On the other hand, the oedipus complex mentioned in the article ties to the five stages of psychosexual development according to Freud, which focused on pleasure-seeking centres (erogenous zones) that a child has and how they resolve these stages to move to the next. Regression and fixation were the result of an unresolved stage or an inadequately resolved stage, which he saw as harmful to future development.

These are short descriptions that can enrich and add on to the concise points in the article, thank you!

Sree rekha k zenith

It was very informative, I haven’t heard this much details about Sigmund Freud. Thank you for that.

Simran Nair

Freud, indeed, had great contribution to the field of Psychology. Well- written and Crisp piece of information.

Kritika Bhair

Heyyyy Neha
It was quite informative
I would suggest you this one series on Netflix titled “FREUD” do watch this
It gives us more knowledge about his life’s roller coaster and also his studies have been depicted in a very well manner

Thanks

Meenakshi A Nair

Hey Good work, I think u can also add up on the neo Freudians part for the next article, well done

Akshita Wasnik

Very unique topic, good work, I would have lived to know more about his impact on American Psychology.

Yashaswini Bhat

you have taken a a very informative topic and you have done a amazing job at writing the article .I
just feel that if the article should have been little longer and u should have mentioned the reference that you made to structure the article. Other than that you have done a great job.
Please take my suggestions friendly

Alby Thomas

A unique topic discussed in detail!❤️

Poojitha

Not called the father of psychoanalysis just like that. I wonder what would it have been like if he was alive now. How would he impact today’s psychology. Amazing article

Sneha Agrawal

Even Erik Erikson. He is also famous for his theory of psychosocial development and concept of identity crisis. He was an ego psychologist who studied with Anna Freud, expanded psychoanalytic theory by exploring developments throughout life.Erikson was a neo-Freudian psychologist who accepted many tenets of Freudian theory but altered then with his own idea and beliefs.Last para it should be another efficient contributor*and not contributors*.Just a suggestion the title is not very well suited.Freud and Ivan Pavlov’s perspectives on psychology are completely different. So it would have been better of u have have integrated his work with psychologists following Freudian theory.

Navleen Kaur

This is one of my favorite topics and I love reading about Sigmund Freud but this article could have included a bit more information and contribution of the other psychologists.

Akshata Hajare

Amazing work

Diksha Tarnekar

Very nicely described. So informative.

Ami Kukadia

Amazing topic to discuss about. Looking forward for more contents on other psychologists too.

Prerna Dash

I am an admirer of Sigmund Freud and love his work. This was a short and crisp article and was very nicely organized.

Sneha Goswami

Hi !
It was very informative to go through your article! Most of the textbooks on psychology write about one or the other works of Sigmund Freud, Pavlov and Carl Jung. We might even say that they are the pioneers of the psychology that we study today. Then it becomes very essential that we do know about their backgrounds.
I have one request as well. Can you write about Indian psychologists as well? If yes, that would be great! I am very interested to know about their backgrounds as well.
Overall, a well-written article!
Best wishes,
Sneha

Great work

Harnaaz kaur

This was amazing! I’m pursuing Psychology honours and was recently discussing with my peers about psychologist contribution.
Although I personally believe Sigmund Freud’s theories had many flaws and all the stories I’ve heard about him ( about her daughter as well ) leave me a bit shocked but we gotta give the credit he deserves. We are here reading about him and his theories for some reason.

I love the bandura’s theories personally, the social learning one specially.

Thank you for compiling all this and giving all of us the experience of reading about the pioneers of Psychology.

Sending power your way.

Srijita Chatterjee

It was really informative, and shed light on Freud’s early days. It would be more articulate if there would be instances of his theories, and his contribution to psychology.

Vinaya Parthasarathy

Freud is one of the best psychologists and his theories are very influential

Harini

This is such a nice briefing about their contribution. Freud in fact has really given us a very different perspective about psychology. You could also talk about Anna Freud’s study in psychoanalysis and maybe their work influence in other fields.
I’ll look forward to your next article.

Kirti manaktala

Psychoanalysis and Freud has always fascinated me. From the levels of consciousness to the idea of interpreting dreams everything is beyond just interesting. This article sums his contributions up perfectly and it was a really nice read.
looking forward to reading more such articles.
stay safe and take care

Rashmi Parab

Very unique topic, good work, I would have lived to know more about his impact on American Psychology.

Saumya Srivastava

The article is informative and well presented. I would suggest you break your sentences into shorter paragraphs so that they become more catchy and easy to read. Apart from that, it would have been nice if you could add a little more about Carl Jung and Ivan Pavlov. While Sigmund Freud has indeed done revolutionary work in psychology, his work has been more refined with time by neo Freudians, Jung being one of them. His theory of Analytical Psychology apart from collective unconsciousness mentioned something very unique about archetypes. Also, Ivan Pavlov was actually a Russian while Jung was German. Maybe you could add something about other American psychologists like Abraham Maslow or Erik Erikson.

Shubhangi

Very well written, i hope to read some other of your articles soon, love it. keep up the good work.

Sakthiswaari R M D

this article has given a detailed information about the life and achievements of Sigmund Freud. the first theory of his (psychoanalysis) has lead to the different path in the perspective of the life of psychology.
This article was very useful.

Yuvanue chauhan

Nice work..

Hakim Khairunnisa

You’ve talked about the people you’ve great contributions in the field of psychiatry. But it could have been more descriptive.

Kritika

A very well written article. Without Sigmund Freud a field named psychology wouldn’t have expanded with many theorists coming up wtih their perspectives and opinions that are different from Freud’s. Carl Roger, Maslow are people who even denied Freud’s view of mind and they went on to discuss more about self actualisation, unconditional positive regard, empathy.

Nandhini

Hey . Its very nice work ..gives information on differentiation of mental health of men and women

Fathima Muskaan

Heyy!
Freud has been my favourite psychologist! It’s he who made me think over his theories over and over again! The levels of consciousness, the role of id, ego and super-ego, stages of development all these findings have forced all of us to be more careful while parenting and have balance between id and super-ego. In fact, dream analysis is the most important part of Freud’s achievements!!

Nandhini

A good and unique topic discussed in detail ..good work

Pooja Gupta

No doubt Sigmund Freud has been the most efficient contributor to the field of psychology. But it would be really nice if you could include or quote few statements that he has given. For example, dreams are the royal road to unconsciousnes. Ofcourse Freud has given birth to many phenomenas that even Netflix couldn’t resist to showcase.

Gurleen

I read about Freud ,Carl and Pavlon when i was in 12th. it was quite an informative article but would have loved if it included more of their work and criricisms. i always thought of freuds work as too much focused on sex drive especially in children. you should watch ‘freud’ on netflix, it was a good show and gave good insights.

Divya Chopade

Hello,
I really liked your article , it was short and sweet !
Easy to read !

Prashamsa

It was unknown topic for me. Really informative. Useful article neha.

Shramana Singha Roy

It was very informative , thank you for sharing your knowledge with us ☺️

Kritika

A well written article. Without Sigmund Freud, psychology field wouldn’t have expanded. He has let many theorists to think more in depth and come up with new theories.

Hardeep Kaur

Well said. Sigmund Freud is the one who still impact psychology as a field strongly.

Sana

Dear Neha, Thank you so much for this useful article about Sigmund Freud.

Krishna Priya

Good work Neha. I suggest you read about Brewer too because Freud’s work started with him and without Brewer we might never have half the stuff that Freud came up with.

Kanak

A very insightful article.

M. Benadict Savitha

It was so informative to know the topic and thank you for giving more information and i gained more knowledge. But there are more about freud and many therapist are there it would have been better if you have mentioned them too. Waiting for your next article. All the best.
