Feelings over Facts

Human beings are emotional creatures.

They don’t care what is true, rather how does it feel is more important than logic.

Here is an example: Once, my cousin asked her mother,

“Why do I need to eat these green vegetables?

I hate the taste of these vegetables.” Her mother said that vegetables are good for her health. They spent 1 hour discussing, reasoning over green vegetables.

But she didn’t care about how healthy these vegetables are and she still wouldn’t eat them.

Now her mother tries to sneak green vegetables into her foods whenever she can.

Was my cousin wrong?

No, she wasn’t. It just that she doesn’t get a good feeling about green vegetables.

Green vegetables = Bad taste

This was her instinctive feeling that she couldn’t be wrong.

Was her mother wrong? No, she wasn’t wrong. She talked about all the facts about green vegetables.

My cousin eats to feed her feeling, and not a rumbling stomach.

This is what most people do in life. They put feelings over facts. Remember, you can’t always let feelings take over the facts. You need to take your feelings seriously but don’t let them control you. It can destroy you. And there are also people who put facts first in every situation. Other people call them heartless. They are not heartless it just that they are using their heartless. But balance is all that you need in these two things.

Steps to balance feelings and facts:-

  • Know the difference between feeling and fact to handle the situation.
  • Always pay attention to how your feelings may distort your thinking and influence your behavior.
  • Keep it in your mind that feelings are always written on your face.
  • And balancing both leads to a successful person.
