Fear of Travel

It might be weird for you to hear that people suffer from Hodophobia – Fear of Travelling.

When I heard about it I was also shocked that there exist such kind of fear also. People plan to go to different places and explore things, try new cuisines, meet interesting people.

Let’s talk and have a overview of what actually Hodophobia is

Hodophobia is an extreme and irrational fear of Traveling. Hodophobia can be caused due to a negative past incident with travelling and is tended most likely to develop during adulthood.

Symptoms

  • Dizziness
  • Sweating
  • Nausea
  • Dry mouth
  • Loss of appetite
  • Muscle Weakness
  • Abdominal pain

Sometimes Hodophobia may cause panic attacks where you may feel Difficulty Breathing or even feel like you are losing control or dying.

Incidents which indicate that you have “HODOPHOBIA” :-

  • When you can’t travel via bus, plane, train
  • When you are unable to drive or ride a car
  • You may even get panic attacks by just imagining of travelling and while booking tickets also
  • When you depend on your family or friends for sake of Travelling
  • You may fear travelling away from home

Free yourself from Hodophobia and explore as much as you can :-

Plan a trip and stick to it . Try to avoid spontaneous trips. Make a plan like at what time and where you will be going and your mode of transportation.

Avoid using Caffeine, Alcohol before and during travelling because it may cause anxiety issues and causes dehydrating effects.

As people may have travel anxiety also, it’s better to arrive early, Ask a friend or loved one to accompany you, eat healthy food before travelling and carry healthy snacks with you.

If you really feel like you have to overcome your fear then you need to try it . I personally think that “If something scares you and excites you at the same time” then you need to try it once. Travelling can heal people from different issues. Forget that you have such a kind of fear and then take a deep breath and just go for a trip, feel the fresh air and live up to the moment.

What do you think?
