Fear of Happiness

If you are not ready for happiness, the universe will not give you happiness

Fear of happiness is the biggest fear which neither let us live peacefully nor let us die, says Banty Barman, a victim of anxiety, depression and love.

Take your cat on your lap and sit on the chair and enjoy my happenings. I was a prey for a long time, so I am sharing a part of my life. I got flashback and my eyes went numb while writing this but it’s quite ok coz I enjoy writing.

Happiness comes in an uncomfortable zone

I am telling you one incident of mine. While working in a private bank, I desperately wanted a certain role which I was craving for a long time. On the other side, I was also afraid of getting changed to get that particular responsibility. I realised it is not the potential which is stopping, it is the change which will give happiness later.

I was so comfortable with the sad situation of mine that I was unable to digest the fact that my situation can change. I had become habituated with the sadness of my life. So I was craving for a happy life but I was not ready to change. I was damn sure that position will give happiness but to get that I needed to change myself. I needed to come out of my comfort zone.

So I got stuck to my position and was far away from happiness. Now, I realised some people can be so coward and lazy like me who are pessimist too that they get satisfied with the journey so much and never want to reach the destination. They are happy in complaining and blaming others why they are unable to reach their destination.

Restrain change

I remember it happened to me when I lost my business and I started sulking. Instead of seeking help to restart it, I kept telling people my sad story and the way they comforted me, gave tremendous pleasure which at that moment I thought I won’t get even if I restart my business.

Whether you believe my words or not, but some people are more afraid of being happy than dying. Those people are so negative that if you take a lamp to their dark house, they will feel that you are coming to burn their house in the dark.  We can say they seek sympathy more than success.

Unhappy again

Once in a lifetime oh! Sorry many times in life, our emotions are brutally crushed by someone special. In our damn heart, all four chambers are filled with pain. Some people having a fragile heart, were very strong long ago but due to certain circumstances their emotions have been broken and now they are afraid of getting broke again.  When they are about to receive happiness in their life, they remember their past and step back. They are happy living with a damaged heart. When someone comes to repair, they avoid it cause they don’t want it to blossom again which might get crushed. The fear of getting broken again restrain them to enjoy the sip of happiness.

It is seen in those people who analyse things more than required. Remember “the more you analyse the more you get paralyzed.” Being a patient of this disease, I would recommend you not yo think much and let the ball roll towards your goal and enjoy whatever comes on your way. Do change if required. Enjoy the journey even if you know you are heading towards hell cause we need to make good memories so that we can remember and smile when we will not be unable to make any.

(If you liked my writing, I assure that you will like my love story book too. It is full of romance, twist, suspense, tears and other heart melting moments. I have shown what a boy can do when he is mad in love. To have a look click here.)

Great work. We are struck by the fear of happiness when we are unhappy for too long but it is not a disease, it is a state of mind which will fade away with time and constant efforts.

Woah, that was a great article. Thank you very much for sharing your experience and what you felt. You are right on the part that some people fear happiness more than death. You gave ample reasons for it. What I feel might be another reason is that they feel that there will be something worse after the happy moment so they avoid being happy. But yes I respect your opinion. Power to you. All the best

Great writing buddy! I have been a victim of it too. Its funny yet sad that how Asian families teach us that once you are happy something else I.e. Failure or sadness is surely on your way.

It’s such a great effort to express things like that.
People are not talking about this or think it’s nothing much..but it’s more complicated than we think .
It will be more helpful if you add those brain areas which will get affected by this kind of stresses.
Thank you

Shweta Tiwari

You are such a brave guy becoz it’s too Hard to admit your flaws, thanku for sharing your experience what you feeled. You have written this article and your story very beautifully . waiting for your more articles.

Kirti Giridhar

After reading your article I think you are a very strong human who is honest about his inner turmoil and the way he had faced circumstances and to do this requires a lot of courage which you already have.
Though you could have also given a conclusion that includes how people depend upon materialism to be happy but happiness is the fruit that resides in one’s own self otherwise it was well written.

Kritika

Nice write up. Its well explained in an understandable manner. Few culture and societal expectations doesn’t allow people to stay happy. Its got to do with a person’s choice to stay happy or fear happy.
