Different types of therapies

The use of artistic for healing process to treat psychological disorders and enhance mental health is known as therapy. Therapy is a technique or a measure taken to unmute the muted thoughts, feelings and reactions which an individual can express through creativity which can foster healing and mental well-being. Art forms itself is a healing method to recover certain aspects and explore one’s emotions, how he or she feels, to boost up ideas and self esteem and work on social skills.

Types of Therapies

  • Dance therapy
  • Drama therapy

Art therapy

Art therapy is used to create positive wellness to improve mental, emotional an physical  through art where the techniques like painting, sketching, origami, sculpturing, collaging and several art supplies are at play.

The only gate way to gain out of art therapy is concentration and attention, it needs no artistic skills. All the age, gender and everybody is invited to set up an awareness of the self for the betterment.

Example: using clay with a particular color to express an individual’s thought through shapes, coloring stones with paint, drawing on sand, drawing with favorite colors to express an individual’s emotions.

 

Dance therapy

Marian Chace was the founder of dance therapy during the 1940s which was also know as the movement therapy.

This type of therapy was considered to support and achieve  mental and physical heath. Further helps to maintain and reduce stress, mood balance, prevent diseases. Dance therapy lets an individual to explore and understand the self and to improve the self. Dance is known to be the most efficient way to express oneself. Movement therapy focuses on experimenting oneself, exercise, experience and self recognition. Non verbal communication through expression, bodily movements and self expression is done.

Example: expressing the hidden emotions through facial and bodily expression through dancing and movements for the songs. Gliding along with slow songs.

 

Drama therapy;

Lewis Barbato’s discovered drama therapy in the 1940’s in which role play, vocal work, movement and storytelling to help explore and solve personal and social problems of an individual. This therapy contains expression, stories, performance, and improvisation to help people make changes for their betterment.

Drama therapy promotes positive changes in behavior, emotional well-being, personal growth, self awareness and change in quality of life.

Example: acting a scene, mimicking like Rajinikanth, giving speeches like a politician.

 

Music therapy

Thayer Gaston is know to be the father of music therapy who discovered in the 1940’s.

This therapy involves an individual to play instruments, write songs, sing, and listen to different genres of music. It promotes to address cognitive, emotional physical and social needs for a group of individuals. It provides a road to communicate which can be helpful to express themselves through words.

Example: playing harmonica, singing favorite songs, listening to soothing music.

 

The above therapies are prescribed to the Individuals who are as follows:

• Adults and children experiencing severe stress.

• Children suffering from behavioral or social problems at school, home or in a social setting.

• Children or adults who have experienced or experiencing a traumatic event in the past or present.

• Children with learning impairment.

• Individuals suffering from a brain injury.

• People experiencing mental health problems.

• Aging-related issues, anxiety issues, depression, emotional difficulties, cancer, eating disorders, family, social or relationship problems.

• Individuals who can not express themselves and to grow in a better way.

• Individuals who have gone through or on going with unstable mental and health problems.

• Individuals who needs a clear mind and who can pay their precious time in attending the therapies and who believe that they can gain the best out of it to take positivity and as well spread to the surrounding.

• Individuals who been cured from the health and mental issues and who are in the verge of relapsing and therapies will be an helping hand to put a caution tape and stop from relapsing to a certain point.

• Therapy is not only for the people who have struggled but for one who wants gain positive energy and gain more knowledge.

These therapies work on several social settings which are as follows;
