1. Introduction

How do you feel today?

Are you OK?

Do you think yourself as a healthy person?

2. Understanding the health

According to the World Health Organization, the state of completely physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity is called “Health.”

From my point of view, I understand that nobody is totally healthy like WHO defines.

Every person might have some deviations in the mental and / or in the social well-being, even the body is fit.

Why?

Your lifestyle, or the working environment, the society or your childhood has much influences on your mental health.

Besides, the accidents, the genetically or biologically disorder of the chemicals in your brain, or some medical problems like cancer can affect the mental health too.

3. Self-investigating with some symptoms

Do you have the following symptoms very often? Or is there any person around you have the following symptoms?

  • Depression
  • Anorexia ( prolong loss of appetite)
  • Insomnia
  • Sudden weight loss or weight gain
  • Addiction to something or someone
  • Anxiety and so on

4.Why do we need to discuss about the mental health?

Actually, it is OK to be sad. It is OK to cry but it is not OK if you are crying or sad every day.

This is the fact. If you are suffering the above one or many of those symptoms very often, you should need to do something. But what do you need to do?

Everyone needs to know what he or she is suffering about the mental health and how serious it is.

We can find the solution when we know the problem. That’s why, if we know our mental health condition, we can get the proper treatment.

5.Mental health is curable.

Hey, have you noticed it?

The mental health problem is able to solve i.e. mental disorders or illnesses can be treated.

6.Before the treatment, let’s figure out who we are and how our mental is healthy.

So before finding the treatment, let’s figure out do we need the treatment? What kind of treatment is needed? And to know these, we should firstly study the different types of mental disorders.

7. Different types of mental disorders

There are 300 mental disorders according to the DSM-5 by APA. (American Psychiatric Association). But here let’s see the common ones.

8.Anxiety Disorder

Do not confuse the anxiety with the anxiety disorder. We may encounter the stressful conditions at our work, our school or before / on stage or when we have to make the important decision, our body sweats, hearts beat fast and even get the hands cold. These are not disorders.

Your anxiety level gets worse, or hard to control, or your behaviors change and affect your duties and performances, then you become having the anxiety disorder.

This can be classified as

  •   Generalized Anxiety Disorder: those suffering GAD has more worries for life than the normal person
  • Phobias: this is also known as the social anxiety. Although you know the spider can harm you less than a tiger, you still scream and avoid the spiders,  this means you have the anxiety disorder.
  • Panic disorder- this is related with the panic attacks

9. Mood Disorder

Being in a bad mood doesn’t mean the mood disorder. Clearly Depression and Bipolar disorder are examples of the mood disorder.

  • Depression: When someone is sad for a long time, or loses the concentration, appetite, pleasures, self-esteem, changes in the sleeping pattern or   sometimes, the person feels the pain without the causes, that person is suffering depression. This disorder can be diagnosed at least after two weeks when the person suffers these symptoms and can occur life-long or recurrent.

  • Bipolar Disorder:  A person suffering bipolar disorder acts recklessly due to the extreme mood upsides and downs conditions. Bipolar seems to be linked with family history. Men suffer this with mania (the highs) and women suffer the depression (the lows) at first. That’s why bipolar has depression symptoms as well as the mania like over self- confidence, aggressive behavior as well as the hallucinations and delusions.

10. Personality Disorder

How do you understand the personality? Personality includes the way of thinking, the behaviors that show the personal identity or characters. Disorder types include:

the odd , the dramatic and the anxious disorders.

Schizoid, Paranoid, Schizotypal disorders are included as the odd personality disorder group.

Antisocial, Borderline and narcissistic are as the dramatic personality disorders.

Avoidant, Dependent and obsessive-compulsive disorders are types of anxious personality disorders.

  • Schizoid Personality Disorder:  This personality disorder symptoms outlines that the person loves to think and live alone and hates to have close intimate with others.

  • Paranoid Personality Disorder: People having the type of disorder do not trust others seriously. They assume the people are not loyal extremely.

  • Schizotypal Personality Disorder: This disordered person’s style of dressing or speaking are differed strangely with others and they believe in the magic too much.

  • Antisocial Personality Disorder: Selfish, lack of consideration for others are characters of this disorder. The anti-social person does not respect others and does not behave well and has tendency to abuse and do violent actions too.

  • Borderline Personality Disorder: The borderline disordered person’s quote is “All or none”. They regard the society as the good or, if not, the bad. They just follow after their emotions and thus, have difficulties in problem solving.  They can harm themselves or others to get the attention or to manipulation.

  • Narcissistic Personality Disorder:  This disordered person are the back seat driver. The person who looks up himself or herself too much, always wants and accepts the compliments but not the judgment has the narcissistic disorder.

  • Avoidant Personality Disorder: According to the name, the person avoids the social, the work and the responsibilities. But actually, this type of person loves to deal with others but they dare not accept the judgment, looking down of other people, or being unlike by others. Thus, they avoid people, problems and responsibilities.

  • Dependent Personality Disorder: Mostly women but men can also have this type of disorder. When a person is fear of rejection, cannot survive alone or make decision independently, they always need someone who protects or controls them.

  • Obsessive-compulsive Personality Disorder: This type of personality is good actually because the person is independent, ambitious, knows and completes the responsibilities, love to do or set things in order and perform logically. However, they lose to control themselves, like they are chasing one achievement after another without stopping and thus, becomes disorder with inability to adapt, change, and difficult to make a decision. They are often isolated when they have to adapt or cooperate or depend on others.

11. Psychotic Disorder

Hallucinations and Delusions are partly associated with this disorder.

Thinking that someone or something is trying to harm or attack is delusions.

Hearing the strange voice or sound that are not real or seeing things that doesn’t really exist is hallucinations.

Distinctly, schizophrenia is the psychotic disorder.

Symptoms include:

  • Psychosis: hallucinations, delusions, difficult to think clearly and actions are strange.
  • Negative:  difficult to show the emotions and feeling, poverty of speech.

12. Eating Disorder

This is concerned with how a person consumes the food, diet, and cares about the body weight.

  • Anorexia nervosa: This type of disorder suffering person has too much worries about putting on weight. Thus, eating very less amount of food, or having the intense diet rather than the healthy one, sometimes using the laxatives or trying to vomit can be seen with this disorder. Therefore, the person with anorexia nervosa are dangerously underweight.

  • Bing eating: There is no wonder that this type of disordered person are overweight because they are different from the anorexia nervosa. The binge eaters do not care about the weight as well as their food intake. They eat too much until they feel uncomfortable. They feel guilty about their eating style and thus, the binge eater has meal time alone.

  • Bulimia nervosa: This is the mixed type of anorexia and binge eating disorder.  People with bulimia eats too much but after it, they take the intense exercises, the laxatives, fasting seriously. Over-weight, under-weight and even normal weight can be found in this disorder.

Due to the imbalance of diet intake and the usage of the food energy, the eating disordered person may have other medical problems in heart, kidney, stomach, throat, neck and so on in addition to the body weight problems.

13.Substance abuse Disorder

Addiction to the substance relates with this disorder.

Alcoholism, drug abusers, like morphine, opiates, are suffering this disorder.

Symptoms showing that

  • desire to use the drug or the substance frequently or beyond limit
  • do the violence, attacks, theft or anything if he/she can get the drug or substance
  • difficult to survive without the drugs or the substance and sometimes,
  • the person may suffer the withdrawal symptoms during their attempts of getting back to be normal.

 14.Trauma related Disorder

If a person had an experience of an awful or fearful or unpleasant situation like accident, sexual assault, physical abuse, battles or wars, the person might have the  potential of having this disorder. There is “fight-flight” or acute stress response when we encounter with a dangerous or stressful event. This response helps us how we will response back to the situations, e.g. run away or fight. People with the trauma related disorder has this response too, however, they do not recover normally and still has the fear and anxiety from the situation as life-long or over the periods.

Symptoms show that

  • re-experiencing the moment about the trauma
  • avoiding the situations that reminds about the trauma
  • difficulty in sleeping,
  • easily startled
  • negative opinions on self
  • concentrated in troubles.

Rizul Gupta

Perfect balance between formal and informal language used makes it so much more accessible to everybody and you have accomplished that amazingly!

Prakriti Sanganeria

Hey! It was really nice to know about the different disorders. The narcissist personality disorder and borderline personality disorder is new to me. But could you also write about how you can deal and treat these different disorders because many people do not like therapy or wouldn’t want to get admitted to a mental hospital. Some different ways to handle the disorders by oneself would be great! Thank you for writing such an amazing piece.

Very informative article, may have included sleeping disoders because many peple think there is no such thing as sleeping disorder. In fact, more than one-third of adultsTrusted Source in the United States report getting fewer than 7 hours of sleep in a 24-hour period. More than 70 percent of high school students report getting fewer than 8 hours of sleep on weeknights.

Very informative article, could have talked about sleeping disorder because many people don’t consider them as disorders. In fact, more than one-third of adults in the United States report getting fewer than 7 hours of sleep in a 24-hour period. I’d like to say that as someone who suffers from OCD, the part where you said “This type of disorder is actually good” is very infuriating. OCD is not good and it will NEVER be. It can be used to your advantage, yes but that is one thing but calling it good is simply another. OCD does more harm than good actually. So please keep that in mind next time you ever mention OCD anywhere. Aside that, this is actually written well but this actually feels like a very basic introduction to mental disorders and some of it is even termed wrong. I understand your intention was good but the way its been executed is not correct. However, thank you for writing this. It is a really good effort on your part.

Sanyogita Sharma

I m sorry but aftee reading it over times I m unable to find where I have mentioned about OCD and i would never say like that . I was only talking about sleeping disorders that is far away from OCD

I think the overall article was very informative and good in terms of providing knowledge. However, throughout the article I noticed some basic grammatical errors that night have been made by mistake. These errors sometimes make people think less of the quality of the article though that might not be the case. My only suggestion would be to proof-read the articles before publishing.

Ekta Mishra

It has almost covered the simple mental disorders commonly found among the people now-a-days.
The types of the personality disorders are explained clearly
The given symptoms are useful in identifying the mental disorders easily.
This article could have contained a lot more details about the Bipolar Disorder and Depression
The author could have also added the details of the treatments or therapies used for treating the disorders.
At-least the author could have added the list of treatments.

More elaboration on panic disorder. In mood disorder, since you talked about depression, i think it is important to also talk about mania, since mood disorders concern two types of moods: depression and mania. Also, there are two types of mood disorders: unipolar and bipolar mood disorder, which you missed the former. Otherwise, great job.

Hey. I just loved your article. The way you presented every disorder and using the pictures made the article interesting. This article was very informative and speaking on this topic is important and necessary. I really appreciate your work. I don’t want to criticize your work because I can see your efforts but would like to suggest to keep your writing small and simple. Lengthy articles makes the person lose the interest while reading it. Please take it in a positive way.

Hello,

The connection between the pictures and the information was great and looked lovely on the blog. Just a suggestion that the introduction could be a bit longer. But it was great. Loved your work

Jigyasa vashistha

Hi,
I loved how beautifully you have crafted & outlined this article. It is just so catchy & fun to read. This article has so much helpful insights. Also it is spreading awareness. But a little suggestion, with problem comes solution. You could have added equal or some amount of solutions to avoid or get rid of mental ailments.

Ananya Praveen

you have done a good job. you have explained the types of mental disorders really well. I just felt by mentioning what will the article you may have lost readers attention or the reader may only skip some of the concept and read only. take it in a friendly manner . Most people need to read this and understand that mental health isn’t a joke. We are all human at the end of the day. Thanks for sharing this information.

Anagha Rohankar

Heyyya dear, i really appreciate ur efforts. I really found ghis article very informative. By reading this i really got much knowledge. ❤️
Being a fam on this platform i just want to suggest you something. As u have written about mental disorder Uh must have added points on overthinking. I personally believe that overthinking somewhere leads to depression and anxiety. Without thinking, depression is just a feeling of down-ness or lethargy or sadness with no label, with no link between any of these things. You have some feeling that you don’t feel like doing anything, and you don’t give it some grandiose label such as depression that contextualizes it in this larger life narrative. You’re simply lethargic and you do with that as you will.
And the best solution for it is to control over own mind. It sure can. It all comes down to controling your thoughts. If you have an overactive mind you should always try to keep it busy buy reading about unrelated subjects (works best for me). You should also keep in mind that thinking about something constantly will not solve the problem because it will only lead to more stress and confusion. This is especially hard when you have a big problem but what I’ve learned over time is that the first solutions that came to mind were the best, overthinking only made it worse.
Thank uh
Cheers!!! ✌️

Kriti Misra

Congratulations on writing such a precise article on a vast topic. All the common disorders have been covered and the article is very informative. Just a little suggestion: including depression in the list of symptoms for self-investigation does not seem right as depression is a disorder; the section on anxiety disorders should have included OCD and PTSD and the three disorders already mentioned should have been more clearly defined for a better idea. In addition to this, discussing mental health should not just be about disorders, it should also be about self care and ways to maintain our mental health.
Thank you for writing about all the disorders and making it easy for everyone to understand.

DJ

Hey! It felt good to read your article. I really appreciate your efforts you put into the research and writing. The content was good and your writing style was brief yet detailed. The images used are quite impressive. Keep it up!
