Are you running in circles?

We all often find ourselves back at square one, the point where we began. We may see ourselves stuck in the same situation, fighting the same fights, facing the same challenges over and over. It might make us feel hopeless, make us feel incapable, lost even.

To run in circles means “to fail to make any meaningful progress in some task or activity” or “be busy doing something without achieving anything important or making progress”

Life is full of unexpected moments, abrupt endings, sudden decisions and walking on a path so unique despite us living in a society full of people. Failures? Losses? Achievements? Disease? Whatever specifics you have, or face may seem similar to a million others across the world but at the same time your combination of all this is unique even in this population of over 7 billion humans. That is just amazing.

We may be overthinking and holding ourselves at that one spot or perhaps struggling to overcome a certain challenge in life and finding ourselves make no progress. But are you not at all making progress? Not really.

You might be stuck if you are not planning or acting at all but if you are, even with zero displacement, you are inching closer towards your goal. How you ask? Close your eyes and think of all that you did regarding that situation? Were you making a layout for what moves you would make? Did you learn a bit more about your situation every time you tried to act on it? Did you get a better understanding of how things are working and what not to be done? Are you so well aware of your situation now that you know what exactly is stopping you from making progress?

If you answered ‘yes’ to even one of those question, bingo! You are making progress! It might be one of the hundreds of attempt you have to make in order to finally get through. But guess what? You are learning each moment. From you mistakes, from the situations that brought you back to the start of your situation. It is like an army assessing the enemy territory before making a move. It is vital groundwork.

Now you have the tools, the maps, the techniques you need to take down what tries to hold you back. You can proudly look straight into the eye of the storm that stands in front of you and say “I know you now. Nothing can stop me from taking you down”.

What can you do today?

  • Reflect on the things you have done so far for the situation.
  • Be consistent. As hopeful as the article is, consistency is the essence of it for you to get through.
  • Breathe. Some days may seem too overwhelming and you may not be able to reason things out or find logic in the situation. Breathe in for the count of 3 and then slowly let out to a count of 5.
  • Seek guidance. It is okay to ask for help, support or just finding someone to give you a shoulder. A listening ear may be all you need sometimes, and it can work miracles compared to dwelling in your own thoughts.
  • Pray. May it be to a deity or higher power or the universe itself, close your eyes and recite a word of prayer seeking support and strength. It will instil hope in your mind in times of despair.
  • Look within. All the answers you seek, in the way that best suits you, resides within you. No other human understands you and your situation as much as yourself. Meditate, pray, relax yourself and help yourself find your path.
  • Therapy. Sometimes when you feel too lost, professional support may be needed. But a good therapist would not feed you with their own ideologies or methods but guide you, again, to find that unique path that best suits you, which resides within you.

Talk to a friend or loved one. Share your thoughts with supportive communities like ours or try journaling your thoughts. Take one step at a time and do not compare your progress with others (remember how your journey is unique). Love and accept yourself for all that you are and never give up on yourself, the one being that has and always will stay with you through it all, you.

Someday you will look back at your situation and feel it is not too much for you anymore, take pride that you made it so far, feel stronger, wiser. Until then, you may need to keep running in circles sometimes. Once, twice, a hundred times, falling, learning, building, learning, fighting, learning, before you finally see light.

You have a beautiful future. You are loved. You are not alone.

This is a very well presented article. It tackles a common but difficult issue. As given, it is not easy to deal with issues when you feel like you are running in circles, but there are some informative methods written here which will help people move past this issue. That being said, I believe that sometimes to stop runninh in circles, on needs to move away from the situation and do something within there comfort zone, even if it is something simple like walking. It can help one find there centre and think in a much more productive manner.

INTERSTING article, with possible alternates. Though the solutions are at the level best, it differs to each individuals.

This article reminds me of the quote, “failure is the stepping stone to success”. It can be very easy to lose hope and give up momentarily when we are unable to see the fruits of our labor. Hard work and dedication to overcome obstacles never go to waste. This article very insightfully suggest ways to hold on to that last ray of hope. Highlighting important words and adding scientific studies might enhance the otherwise very well written article.

Very well-written article that provides a lot of insight into the topic. Including the ways in which one can get out of “running in circles” can prove really beneficial to people who need it. I admire how instead of merely informing people about the topic, you also provided them with consolation that even when they feel like they’re stagnant in life, they are making progress. I would suggest adding more references, quotes and/or research studies in order to make your points more credible and giving people resources in get more information. Otherwise, keep up the good work!
